Lighting up the world, a little bulb at a time

So when unemployment hit me, I had the toughest time getting used to it. It was a daily task to get up and get motivated. And then one day, I saw these old, empty bottles lying in the cupboard at home. And then it dawned on me.

With my trusty kit of brushes and paints,  I sat down and let the brush talk to me. And lo, and behold, I had made a quirky piece of so-called art.

And this is what I started to keep myself occupied and, so far, I ain't complaining. Welcome to HIGH-LIGHT...

General Rant

It's funny how you seem to write your best work only when you're sad or upset..atleast that's the way it is with me.

It's funny how life will hand things to you with a pinch of salt and sugar, but at no point of time is the quantity the same.. There's never an equal measure of the good with the bad. It's either freakishly bad or amazingly good. That's what makes life so interesting, i guess. It can give you the biggest high when things are going your way and be the best experience you can ask for. But bring in the bad, and it rolls in reallly good.

We as humans are never satisfied with what we have or what we get. It's "human nature" to want more. But what is more? How much is too much to ask for? There has to be a line you draw for yourself where you say to yourself, " Yeah..i think i'm good and happy with this." Very rarely, do you come across an individual who says that.

The flip side to being content is that you'll never strive for more.. or atleast you'd never think about it. Which is a form of stagnation, i'd say. Wanting more is not a crime. That's what life is all about. Experiencing EVERYTHING. living it up. If you don't want more, you won't get more.

But then again.. wanting more leads to needing more which leads to not knowing when to stop..and the cycle goes on. *phew*

But that's how life is.. and now i'm being repetetive, and so shall stop.

Till the next rant.

Yours truly,

A note to all..

Two days of horror. Two days of disaster. Two days that have never been witnessed before. And the fight goes on. News channels all over the world have been covering the events. Shock and disbelief prevails.

The recent "WAR" on mumbai is revolting and unimaginable. It is unimaginable that people would have the will and determination to take lives for no reason. Who in their right minds would do this!? Why do people do these things in the name of religion?! Does any of this make any sense? NO!

Our country has been subject to a number of these attacks. Over the past decade, countless attacks, big and small, have taken place. But has anything concrete been done? I think not. But that's my opinion. Our government has been complacent and ignorant of things for too long. Elections bring out their "best"(which isn't much) and the rest of the time they make a mockery of democracy. What have they done to make sure we are safe in our own country? When can we step out of our houses without having to fear for our lives? Countless innocent people have lost their lives for no rhyme or reason.

How many times must we face another 26/11 before something's done? Questions that our government must start answering. As a country we must stand up for our rights. We vote these politicians to power(unfortunately) and it's time we get what we deserve. If we don't do something, who will? Our politicians??? HAH.. the same people who need 10 billion cars in their convoywhen they travel from one point to another, while the rest of the country suffers from petrol shortage? The same people who use communalism to face such situations? The same people who consume mindless amount of electricity for their damn "rallies" when are facing our biggest power crisis??

At a time like this we as people must stand united against the ugly face of terror.. it looks like our higher officials can't discard their ridiculously archaic views, put aside their differences and board a damn plane together, just to give some hope to the country. We MUST wake up! WAKE UP and stand up against these people. Our country can do it..together! Put aside our differences and make a statement-"We are not politicians".

At times our people act like absolute morons, standing behind anchors, waving and staring at times like this. God forbid a stray bullet hits one of them, who will they blame?! We can do our bit to help...Stay out of the way of the security forces. They know what they are doing. They are highly experienced and no one, I repeat, NO ONE, has the right to question their actions. If it weren't for these brave souls, utter choas would have reigned!

I salute the security forces who have been involved in this long battle and pray for the families who have lost their loved ones or are waiting to hear from them.
Hats off to our security forces. They are the true saviours. They are the true heroes. My condolences and prayers are with the families.

Peace..

A commodity that has become a rarity, except in the realms of our soul. Disturbing.

Ghost

Through her eyes you could see,
What she had been through.
The person you never thought she'd be;
She was the girl who never knew
That she was a gem from up above.

With her head hanging low,
She walks around with a cloud above her.
You could almost feel it pour out of her,
Never knowing all the while that,
You were an actor in the life of Mary Sue.

Call out her name
Only to get a vow of silence;
You're just another pawn in her game,
A game no one knew the name of.

What a way to go,
Without anyone by her side.
She took a leap and a final bow.
And yet you never knew that all the while
You were an actor in the life of Mary Sue.

wandering mind

15th March,2007. It is exactly 11:10 pm on this stuffy, dark night. The screen is blurry and hazy. It's not the lack of sleep that's taking over. It's something one cannot even begin to fathom. It's something i cannot possibly describe on something so unimaginative.

Spheres, big and small, drop..plit-plot-plit-plot..drop till they flop into the emptiness of it all. Maybe they can understand what it's like, maybe they know what i'm talking about...

Or will they?

Answers no one can provide. Answers that seem logical enough but aren't practical. Things may not always morph into what you want them to be, yet there's no harm trying.

And they continue..plit-plot-plit-plot..

Trivial?! Don't be too sure.

1. A rainbow rising out of the storm.
2. The smell of rain on a warm summer's day.
3. Dew drops formed on leaves on a foggy day.
4. Butterflies fluttering around you when you're down.
5. Complete silence to reflect.
6. Playing around in the rain without any worries.
7. Playing in the mud without worrying about how you look.
8. Company of people who you don't really have to talk to, to be heard.
9. A beautiful sunrise and sunset.
10. People who really love you.

These are some of the rights,of sorts, that have been bestowed upon us which we never seem to appreciate. In this day and age, almost everyone is so self-involved that we hardly take the time to stop and take insome of the best gifts one could receive or give. This morning I felt really happy only because my day started off with a view of a beautiful rainbow spread across the horizon. They might not be rich in the material sense of the word but are rich in their own natural way. Take time. Relax. Enjoy. We might be the lucky few who can enjoy the true treasures of life...

I am mine

" Everything that lives,
lives not alone,
lives not for itself."
-William Blake

In this dog-eat-dog world, that's what people fail to understand. Or rather fail to accept and tend to ignore.
Gratitude and indebtedness are as short-lived as a bar of chocolate in a diabetic's refridgerator.

I never truly understood this aspect of the human memory. When in need, help is craved and sought out.
Help recieved, formalities bartered and things go back to normal. But when the time comes to return that
favour once released upon you, the person tends to forget, and forget he does. It never seems important enough to retain in the precious pockets of our memory. Why waste invaluable space on these things when there are more important things like..um..oh let's see...the cost of this cosmetic, the timings of a particular movie, when this girl went out with that guy's friend's ex-girlfriend's ex-boyfriend. Frivality seems to prevail today.

It's like what my dad says-- humans are probably the most ungrateful, undeserving species that could ever be created.
Animals don't ever hold grudges against you if you do something to them. They are loyal and true to themselves. And what makes us "superior" to the other animals..just the fact that we have an auditory advantage over them. We are as brutal, probably more, more savage, and could never match the faithfulness and love that animals show you even if we tried.

What's keeping us from realising that there's a lot more to life than just monetary value? We got lost somewhere along the path..
it's about time we made our way back.
