If God is for us, who can be against us(Romans8:31)

Who is this GOD person?? And if he does exist where is he??(or she for that matter..which actually brings up another issue which ill deal with later) But the first question i put forth to u...what is god!? Who defines wat god is?! And more importantly is god a person or just some imaginary force we name making things easier for us, like everything else! People put themselves through a whole lot of pain and sacrifice in order to appease their respective gods (and in this case am talking about the religious lot) and in the end i'd say that it's just a state of mind, almost like people are willing themselves into believing there's something at the end of all that! I mean it's a sheer waste of money when people spend so much money on rituals and the likes when all that money can be put to good use...for heaven's sake people are dying out there due to lack of monetary aspect!!! Whose to say that all that smoke in our lungs and watery eyes and everything pays off as fortune in the end!?!?! And after all that if things work out well does it really mean that the "FORCE" up there is responsible for that?? hasn't anyone heard of COINCEDENCE....

People just need something to believe in....a crutch, if you will....a bit kinder version of the 'opiate of the masses' theory....

sharanya said...

exactly my point...

Anonymous said...

i just think it's there to control society

sharanya said...

ella: that might be true but does that mean that the masses have no mind of their own?

Anonymous said...

it's not about having no mind of their own.
they wouldn't have morals or ethics.

sharanya said...

morals or ethics are man made....same as religion...who is to say wats right and wats wrong

there is no right or wrong silly girl. if you decapitate someone youd be in the gaol here. but if you did the same in papau new guinea youd be using the decapitated head as a pillow. heard of collective conscience?... its this idea where the whole race is bound by a common belief and certain common values that evolve as though it was a sentient being. the more homogenous the population.. the greater the strength of collective conscience. and when collective conscience possesses overwhelming force.. it can even lead to fanaticism.. and if youre lucky.. the jihad.

sharanya said...

anonymous- i agree with u! which is my point exactly..there IS no right and wrong and that is where WE think we are superior enough to decide things like that..sadly we are mistaken! a very fast demise is what we lead ourselves to. and fanaticism headed for a good cause.well that never did exist...

Anonymous said...

that depends on what your definition of a good cause is.. wouldnt you want to live in a homogenous society bound by very strong ties of identity... and the jihad.. suku understands how beautiful the jihad can be.

sharanya said...

but that is being a little too idealistic isnt it?

Arjun Sukumaran said...

Lol, that I do...as Paul said somewhere though, the strong beliefs associated with things like religion will inevitablylead to some kind of fanaticism...fedaykin anyone?!

Anonymous said...

in dune messiah one of the fedaykin talks about how the fire of his jihad was quelled only when he bathed in the sea. amazing how even paul wasnt able to control the jihad.. power of the mob to put it very simplistically wouldnt you say

Imagination is the one weapon in the war against reality.
- Jules de Gaultier

Arjun Sukumaran said...

Yeah....essentially, mob mentality...taken to the furthest extreme.

sharanya said...

the war against reality..hmmm...why would want to fight reality? it's pointless to try and fight a losing war

Avi said...

well..it probably is...but its the vain hope that ppl have..its kind of stupid really, they KNOW they're not going to get anehwere trying to resist reality, but stilll they try..they give it all they've got in an attempt to salvage their lives from harsh reality..that hope that if they try...they can eventually overthrow reality and settle into a world where they're the masters...and everything's perfect - Utopia....the thought that such a concept can even be conceived is reason enough for humans to believe they can struggle against reality..and wage the losing war..

sharanya said...

Utopia...yes yes..such a false word...raises hopes and eventually shatters a person

Avi said...

haha...aye...the very same!

Arjun Sukumaran said...

No human being can stand being truly and completely faced with reality...so we surround ourselves with all these colourful fantasies, illusions and masks; and delude ourselves that, in the end, we can achieve some sort of reconciliation with reality, as if it were some auto-driver to haggle with.

Anonymous said...

From God to Reality utopia and the like...the journey was a short one..
ella: that might be true but does that mean that the masses have no mind of their own?

no..simply put...they dont...cant forget nazi germany can we

and mostly everything in the world is man made..if we didnt choose our rules, who would make that decision for us?...god?..Ha

Anonymous said...

ok...i put that badly..everything in the world isnt man made....when i said that...i meant stuff like how we measure and rate stuff and how the celsius is convenietly only 100 degrees from boiling to freezing, it wasnt MADE like that..we just graduate our thermometers like that..and around things like that we base all our knowledge...those primary beliefs...so why cant we make our own rules?

DEEP into the sand.

Hello Sharanya.

My very first visit to your blog and my very first comment on it.

Preetika already mentioned it, but if you haven't seen it yet, I suggest you see my post

Sorry if this sounds like an advertisement, but this post is my response to your post.
